On larger scales, such technology can be applied to construction of all sorts. The possibilities could be endless. Imagine being able to rapidly deploy temporary housing facilities over a course of a few days rather then weeks or months... A replacement panel in a matter of hours rather than days or weeks.. a bolt or screw in minutes! A new custom frame overnight!
Exciting times!

I haven't ridden in years now, my last bike pretty much fell apart in 06 when I was doing my L's and I just wasn't in a financial position to repair it or buy a new bike. As a result I never finished the LAMS process and will be looking at buying a new bike early next year after my wedding. It's a long way off, but I'd like to get back into the scene, do some reading, chat with like minded folks and start learning before I swing my leg over a new bike.

So thats it, g'day!

I am fairly new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Pete (swaggie) and I live in Ipswich QLD
Lamented for ages about getting a bike again, It’s been 30 odd years since I had a road bike (commuting on a scooter doesn’t count, so I’ve been told) I now have a 2011 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic

I got Vance & Hines pipes fitted before I picked the bike up.. sounds great!
I bought some saddle bags, just have to get some brackets to fit them.

Now I am on the hunt for a hyperchager can anyone give any advice (pros, cons cost) I also want a sissy bar but there seem to be so many types and sizes cant decide what would look best

would like to meet up with some of you for a ride sometime

Cheers Pete

Road safety expert calls for 30km/h limit trials

Speed limits of 30km/h should be tested near shopping areas, hospitals, schools and aged-care homes after WA had the biggest number of pedestrian deaths in 11 years, road safety experts said yesterday.

Curtin-Monash Accident Research Centre director Brett Hughes said 30km/h speed limit trials were needed after 26 pedestrians were killed by vehicles in WA last year - the equal worst toll since 2000 when 34 pedestrians died.

He said research showed a person hit by a vehicle travelling at 30km/h had a strong chance of surviving, but those hit at 50km/h rarely lived. I thought the reason we went to 50 km/h in the first place for suburban streets was because research showed at 50 km/h you had a strong chance of surviving, but not at 60 km/h? You know, drop 10?

Mr Hughes said lower limits should be tested in Perth's busy areas such as shopping precincts and where there were high numbers of vulnerable pedestrians, such as the elderly, the sick and children.

Main Roads WA has tested lower speed limits at six locations. The first of those trials, which cut the limit by 10km/h to 40km/h on a stretch of Beaufort Street, finished last year.

Others include 40km/h on a part of Albany Highway in Victoria Park, 30km/h on a part of Oxford Street in Leederville and 50km/h on stretches of Great Eastern Highway in Mundaring and South Western Highway in Byford. All areas of narrow, single lane roads, with parking on both sides; most shopping "precincts" are on major highways, FFS.

Main Roads acting traffic manager Clint Cooper said they would meet Office of Road Safety and local government representatives next month to discuss the trials.

Transport Minister Troy Buswell said the trial results would "provide a valuable guide in determining the most effective and appropriate treatments to enhance pedestrian safety at specific locations". Translation: "****, yeah, more speed cameras, more money to piss up against the wall."

Shadow road safety minister Michelle Roberts said she would support 30km/h trials in limited locations. Translation: "We won't fight it 'cause we'll need the dough too when we (eventually) get back in power."

She said an analysis of the deaths last year, such as where, when and how, was needed to better understand the increase.

Gilbert Crossley's 74-year-old wife Eileen died when hit by a car as she crossed Lloyd Street in Midland last month. He believes she would not have been killed if the limit had been 30km/h, not 60km/h, on the road adjacent to Midland Gate Shopping Centre. I'm sorry for his loss, but maybe she shouldn't have wandered across a major arterial road. It's called "Great Eastern Highway" for a reason!

"I think they should try 30km/h limits," he said. "If it only saves even one person then it is a good thing."

Just got back from a morning run down the Peninsula. I came back along the Esplanade heading towards Mornington. So this relates to the Morington bound lane.
Basically starting at Martha Cove there are oil patches every few feet and in nearly every corner right up until the round about at the intersection of the Esplanade and Dominion Rd wherethere is a massive patch of oil as you enter and through the round about.
With the light rain that was there this morning it was like an ice rink.
Take care,
A former Australian motorcycle champion has been the victim of a road-rage incident in Melbourne's outer south-east.

Superbike and MotoGP rider Andrew Pitt was cycling on a push-bike with other motorbike riders at Mulgrave when a bus nearly side-swiped the group on Sunday afternoon.

Pitt has told Neil Mitchell the group challenged the driver at the next intersection, only to be brushed off by the driver, then threatened with a meat cleaver brandished by a teenager on the bus.

Relations between drivers and bicyclists have reached fever-pitch after Shane Warne's very publicised spat with a Southbank cyclist two weeks ago.

Neil Mitchell told listeners on his way to work this morning he almost got into a verbal altercation with a driver who cut him off, but once the guy mouthed an apology Neil said it all was immediately forgotten

I'm reluctantly selling my z750 as it's time I updated my car which is only just hanging in. I'll save a few more dollars after that and try something different.
The bike was first registered Nov 2008 but it's a 2009 model.
Immaculate condition always garaged and with low K's just over 10,000.
Next service is needed at 12,000, comes with full service history and 3 keys. Bike is registered till late November 2012 and will come with a RWC.
No test rides unless fully licensed a deposit and full ID is left.

Now for the extras
MIVV sports exhaust (original exhaust presently on bike)
Puig screen
Braided front and back brake lines (back haven't been installed)
Ventura rack and bag
Belly pan
Tidy tail. (have original as well)
K&N filter new in box

The bike does have one issue which I have been told is minor and will be addressed when I get the RWC. It has a flashing FI light which is due to the exhaust butterfly valve fault. At the last service I had the sports exhaust removed and replaced with original one. The mechanic never noticed that after the change the FI was now flashing so after picking up the bike and bringing it to his attention he assured me it was a case of resetting. I was in a hurry and decided to leave it for the next service. He told me that due to the way the valves open and close with the original exhaust the previous owner had them stuck open when the sports exhaust was put on. He couldn't close them when reinstalling the original exhaust which has resulted in a FI light flashing.

Asking for $8750 bike is located in Blackburn North Melbourne.
I can be contacted on 0414497406 email pubjugger@gmail.com or just send a PM or reply to post.

Picks are when I first got the bike so as you can see it has the sports exhaust (currently original is back on), no screen, no ventura rack and no braided lines in these pics.

Bye bye CBR1000RR :crying:

Stupid old prick coming opposite direction decided it would be a good idea to do an illegal right turn right in front of me. Braked and swerved, dropped it last second and hit his back corner and rolled into the other lane. I'd give it a 9.5 for difficulty but was up on my feet right away to get out of the way of the other cars.

Mostly ok, rashed jeans, rashed jacket, knocked helmet, mega graze on one knee, graze and bruise hip and a very sore shoulder, slightly mashed little finger that got caught under the bar as i went down (i think although it's my left hand and i went down on the right so maybe hit something else). Xray and ultrasound on the shoulder today as i think i might have done my AC joint but I'll live.

Bike is rooted, front end all smashed off, front wheel in the radiator. Towy finished it off when he dragged it along the road and onto the truck. Awesome after i just sepnt the weekend fitting the $400 worth of new bits from when my wife stationary dropped it two weeks before!

Police and ambo's didn't attend but made a police report and have two great witnesses to back it up so depending on how co-operative the other party is will depend on whether i want him charged. In hindsight i should have called the cops at the time but was a bit more preoccupied that i was largely ok to realise that i almost died.

Bike is insured with Famous and they have been great to deal with so far. Time to start shopping for a new bike and new gear!
Today i went to check my tire pressure as I've had my bike for almost a week, thought they might be a little flat as I've done about 800km or so! Anyway, I looked on the swing arm and it said 29 front and 29 back.
I set the meter and was amazed to find the rear tyre was already at 30 so I let it go down to 29. But more worryingly the front tyre was already at 33 psi, I let that go back to down to 29 too...

Anyway, from what I've read, 29 psi front and back seems too low and my tires feel a little flat now. But it has to be better than 33 front and 30 rear right?

Reasons for these 2 bikes are that i am short in the leg & these bike feel "right"
I like the look of both of them

Now personally, i never do this this kind of splitting, but i'd like to gauge the opinion of the wider motorcycling community.

So this morning on my commute via Five Dock, cruising along in the left track of a single lane through steady traffic. Up ahead, a rider going the opposite way decided traffic was too much for him, decided to lane split - crossing the centre line and riding between cars going opposite directions.

It didn't bother me one bit as i had enough buffer space and i saw him jump out of traffic, but the cages in front had to veer away from him as he approached, same thing on my rear view as he passed.

I'm of the mantra to ride your own ride, and if this is the rider's style, then more power to him. But is this riding behaviour acceptable in the overall commuting community?
