Added to Calendar by: Muttly
Springwood - Mt Tamborine - Numinbah - Beechmont - Canungra
Time: 8:30am (for 9:00am start)
Start: McDonalds Springwood
In my honest opinion, this is the best the
Gold Coast Hinterland has to offer
without travelling south into NSW. There
are...

This is an automated posting of an Events Calendar (http://www.netrider.net.au/calendar/) entry.
This is the ride we had planned for August but was cancelled due to circumstances (good thing too because it was a wet, miserable day).
This may be the last group ride for the year that I organise as I'm off down to the Great Ocean Road in October. :P Hopefully we'll get another ride in in November.
The ride guide is already done and you can download it here:
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~muttly/Springbrook_Beechmont.pdf
Possibles and probables:
BalmyBrowny
Tomm
Grofaz
Roy Boy
Timnkoo
Cookeetree
Chrisco
Nicarus
Kslide
Muttly
I hope all of you can make it

Muttly, the goat track is not very good for nervous/new riders..
Have you been on it since they've reopened it Tanya? I don't think anyone will have any problems.

Thanks Muttly, you can put a tick against my name. The weekend looks good for me, and I have heard some positive reports on some of those roads of late. Bring it on...
Excellent BigD! \:D/
Fabes and I did the run on the Ekka Wednesday and it really is a fantastic ride.
See you there

Yea, had been following the earlier thread   you got the same policeman organised for that day :?:
Saw the same guy twice in Canungra on the Wednesday. Fabes and I did it real easy through there and up the goat track. Was just waiting for him to jump out from behind a rock

not talking about the surface.. just how tight it is and steep..

25-Aug-2007, 21:01
Can you make it for this one Tanya :?: It would be good to have a ride together
not talking about the surface.. just how tight it is and steep..
aahhhh...by the time we get to the goat track we'll already have gone over The Panorama...now that is steep  It'll make the road up Tamborine seem like a gentle gradiant.
Seriously though...we went up Obi-Obi last ride and I think that's a bigger challenge then the Goat Track. I wouldn't consider it if I wasn't confident that the riders in this group ride within their limits

 Shite, congrats on the new bike BB. Does that mean Lurker is going to join us for a ride soon
Would a 250 bandit be welcome or would I slow you down?
I'm a noob to group rides but have been on the road for 9 months. If you don't feel comfortable I won't be insulted. Hope to see some of you on fridays when i get the time off.. and bike fixed :P
BalmyBrowny
26-Aug-2007, 17:26

It would be great to have you along Tomm. It's a great group that will make you feel welcome and +1 to what BalmyBrowny said
Congrats to Balmy and Lurker! Hope everything goes well.

As long as you're taking 2fiddys, I'd love to come along and meet some of the crew  I haven't explored that neck of the woods yet and wouldn't mind doing it with some old hands of the area. That route looks like fun times too :)

Yer, I thought it may have been DT behind the scenes there, well done mate. I have seen another black TRX850 on Ipswich Rd Oxley recently. I can't believe how good they sound.
As long as you're taking 2fiddys, I'd love to come along and meet some of the crew
Would love to have you along Roy Boy. You could even meet up with some of us at Darra for the ride to Springwood if you like.

No problems with the fitment other than the predrilled bars being drilled in the wrong spot.
That could have been me a while ago on ipswich road. And you're right, TRX's sound awesome.
Still havent made any decisions on the ride at this stage but at this point I'm thinking it's not a good idea, so I probably wont be on the next few rides at the very least.

Should be good for this one guys and gals...providing Michelin start shipping out more Pilot Road 2 tyres to suppliers, as I am very LOW atm and waiting on these.
Good to see more people getting interested in the group rides. Look forward to meeting all

Since we are discussing what tyres we will be shod with on this next ride...its sounds like a pretty good tyre that one Tim. If I change from the BT020's, that's where I'll be going too...

You are a fantastic rider and you were up there with everyone on the bigger bikes. I couldn't help but comment to everyone what a natural rider you seemed to be.
Haha! You wouldn't be saying that if you'd seen the couple of corners I overcooked on the day! But that was really the first time I'd done cornering like that so I was happy with my efforts and even happier with what I learned watching the others and practicing it myself.
My enduring memory of that day will be the bloke in the ute practicing burnouts who didn't bat an eyelid when 5 bikes and a couple of cars went past....crazy bugger
Anyway, should be a good ride, and looking forward to seeing BM with the new fittings, and of course re-acquainting myself with the rest of you.
As long as you're taking 2fiddys, I'd love to come along and meet some of the crew  I haven't explored that neck of the woods yet and wouldn't mind doing it with some old hands of the area. That route looks like fun times too :)
Cool, another GPX
Looks like you bought my bikes evil twin, with the black and red colours reversed. Might be a photo opportunity for us :P
I should be in for thise one too. I see no reason I won't be at this stage.
Great to see so many regulars and new people coming along.
I know a lot of people are still to make firm commitments but I'll start posting those that have expressed interest in the first post. That way I don't have to read through 20 pages the night before the ride to see who's coming :-k
Lurker, can we get you to do the ICE list again [-o<
Sorry Guys
Will be in Sydney this weekend. Did the recco with Mutley. Thoughly enjoyed the ride we even took time out to explore the natural arch, my first time even thou I have lived in the great south east all my live.

He he,
I wish it was as clean as it is in those pics. A week of travelling in all that rain we had, has taken a bit of the shine off.
Looks like it's going to be a great ride.

I hope to be there. It will depend on whether the horse flu is still around as I had already booked many weeks earlier to go to the Caloundra races with the inlaws. If the horse flu is still keeping the tracks shut I will be heading down for this great ride.

Hi all, new to the board (see intro thread in Lounge).
I'd possibly like to join you for part of this ride, if you don't mind. I live in the Beaudesert area, so I could meet up with you at your stop on Tamborine and then leave you at Canungra.
Looking for more riders???
i'm a maybe at this point - hopefully i'll be able to confirm later in the week.

I got the 'flu big time this year. Had two weeks stuck in my cage. I just didn't have the energy to ride and was also worried I'd sneeze and fill my helmet with snot!
Initially, I just went with the flow, taking my place in the line of traffic. By the end of the second week, I was just about ready to flick it onto two wheels to get by.
I guess what I'm saying is, I feel your pain. :(

BTW Grofaz- I am at Albany Creek so hopefully we can ride to the meet point together next ride?
hmm, for some reason i had it in my mind that the ride was today... (somewhat mixed up this weekend - got ready to go to a wedding yesterday, and just before leaving realised that it was actually sunday, not saturday that the wedding was on)
aaaanyway, i may well actually be able to make a ride next sunday, so kinda pencil me in lightly.

Thats cos there's always a pack of guys following her admiring the view. ;)
If I'm there, then I can do a stint at tec. Im not frightened of being last, my fragile male ego isnt quite that fragile.
At this stage I would say Im only about a 30% chance so dont hold your hopes up too high.... unless someone is gonna bribe me to come.

bigd, please fill us in on what happened.
That is terrible news! That beautiful viffer!
Are you really ok? No injuries?
Hey all.
Sounds like a great ride, however as I'm going to a mate's snappy mirthday party I expect I'll not be legal to ride on the sunday :(
very disappointed, as I've only been back on the bike for about 2 weeks now (after I busted up both kneecaps while rollerblading 7-ish weeks ago) and I still haven't made it up the mountains.
BM:-
your ER-6's new exhaust sounds HAWT~! grats :)
BigD:-
man it was awful to hear of your accident... if the standard exhausts on your viffer are hard to come by, maybe staintunes are in order??
I'm still working from home, so if anyone wants to go riding during the course of the week send me a PM
Have a fun and safe ride all.... I'm very much looking forward to the next one

lectre - enjoy the party
grofaz - nice to see you moving to the better part of the south-east
as for the ride, not so sure i'm gunna be able to make sunday either.... :o ....while i know i am getting better, i also notice that if i do anything for more than about 30 minutes it takes me what seems like forever to recover. and i'm not sure being on the road all day (much as i'd love it) is the best way to be sure i'm capable of fronting back at the office for the first time in five weeks on monday.....
so, i spose i better pull out of this one.......yet another ride down.......

Hi all, thanks for your comments. Monday last week, whilst stationary at the Centenary roundabout, I was struck from behind by a semi trailer. I'm guessing he was travelling at around 20kph. I saw him coming in the mirrors but had no time to react. The impact pushed me forward onto the roundabout, thankfully not into oncoming traffic. I managed to stay on and keep her upright. My topbox was ripped from its mounts and thrown a few meters in front of me, somehow avoiding my back. The bullbar has impacted the topbox mounting bars / taillight / both exhausts and rear guard. Nothing besides the box parted company from the bike, and after swapping details with the driver, I managed to ride her home. The driver suggested that he initially saw me, looked around to check traffic, and then saw (another) bike exiting the roundabout assuming it was me. By that time I had dissapeared under his field of vision (kenworth cabover) and he was driving on. Swann Insurance has assessed the bike and approved the repairs. It's going to be 2 – 3 weeks before she is ready tho. I am currently exploring the possibilities of an exhaust upgrade. Looking back at all of this, I consider myself very lucky. Slightly different circumstances could well have resulted in a much different outcome. The only injury I received was a slight muscle tear in the right forearm. Looking forward to riding with you all again soon, cheers.

Sorry to hear about your off Big D. Glad to hear you are ok. When I got hit from behind I didn't get my back and neck checked out, it didn't hurt for a couple of weeks but it did seem a little niggly after that for a while. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Well I'm on my first bike, But I've had it a little over a month now. From the looks of it the pace isn't going to be overly taxing although this will be the longest trip I've done (about 3 times over). The ZZR is a comfy bike so it should be sweet.

Sounds like a good way to scrub them in and remove the 'strips' . I am now living down the Goldie so I won't be at the Darra roundabout, the other guys usually get there around 7:45-8am for an 8:30am start at Springwood, to answer a question above. But I'm thinking I will still make the Springwood start- see yas then :biker:
To the guy that just got his bike- cannot recommend doing the twistys for the first time with this lot enough. I think it is much safer than doing it yourself as there will be plenty of ppl around keeping an eye out for you, as well as plenty who are able to give you advice if you need it. I am sure some of the more experienced riders will be willing to tail you for a bit and provide feedback on your style if you want/need it. Also some guys are handy with a spanner in the unfortunate event of a lowside

Gday All,
I was really looking forward to this ride, but the bike has less than 200kms left before the first 1000km service which is booked in for next Monday. This ride is going to add many more kms than this, especially as I am riding down from North. I really don't want to run the bike way over the 1st service schedule. I know this might sound very woosy, but it's how I am. Take care on the ride and I look forward to the next one, which I will most definitely be coming on, with the Triumph all run in and able to be redlined.

Hi all,
Well I have been a slack cow and haven't been online for a bit, but Muttly and Pete have passed on all the details they have been given so I have updated the ICE list. I have also left the details of the people from the last ride on it as well, figure I can just keep adding to it each ride and eventually will have everyone.
The details I put on the list are:
Name, NR Name, Own Mobile, Contact Name and their relationship to you, and their contact number (either home, mobile or both).
At the moment I have:
BalmyBrowny
Righty (don't have own number)
Muttly
Big D (dont have own number)
Fabes
Kezza (don't have ICE details)
Nicarus (don't have own number)
Chrisco
Tomm
Roy Boy (don't have own number)
Grofaz (don't have own number)
Cookeetree (don't have own number)
Own numbers are handy to have if anyone goes missing on a ride (has been known to happen  ).
If anyone wants to fill in their blanks or add their details for future rides, please PM me.
I will send Pete along with 8 or so copies of the list tomorrow and will also email it to Greg now in case Pete pulls out for any reason (which I seriously doubt  )
Have fun everyone :)

Forecast from BOM is: A shower about early this morning, and the chance of a thunderstorm, clearing to a fine day. Light to moderate SW to NW winds, tending NE during the afternoon. Max 27.
Now, looking out my window towards the mountains this morning, I can see some cloud still hanging around, but nothing that looks like trouble. I'm sure the roads will be a bit damp in the morning, but should dry out. As I see it, that's a good reason to just relax into the ride early on and have some fun as the group gets to know everyone.

Hey Cookeetree,
Yeah I was really looking forward to this ride, especially when I found out the horse races weren't on (previously booked before this ride). What a beautiful day it turned out to be also. But I did a quick calculation of the km's on the ride combined with travelling from Burpengary to Springwood and back and it worked out to be too many km's past the service. Not to mention I still have another 150km's or so of riding to work and back before taking the bike in. While I have no drama riding at the speed limit required  for this ride, I do want to get rid of the dirty oil earlier than later. But there is always the next ride.

What a great day!!! Awesome weather, great group of guys (where were all the hot chicks???) and some superb roads! Thanks, Greg, for leading the ride. A very good pace, as it kept me out of trouble, for the most part.
The "toll" was one drop (Nicarus popped his 'cherry') one foot down (look out for the branch, Muttly!!!) and one near fatality (well, I would've been dead if I'd actually hit timnkoo - sorry, mate!).

10-4!
Great day guys, I had a blast :D I didn't take many pictures, and it was my first time through the hinterland, but particularly remember the beechmont stretch being fantastic, probably wasn't watching the road as often as I should have been through there
Thanks to Greg for organizing, even got the weather down pat. Cheers mate! Oh and I'll have to get my liner off you some time :)
Thanks for the great day guys, I had heaps of fun especially when chasing the guys on our run from numinbah to canungra.

Hey, guys, thought I'd throw up another couple of pic's...
Another shot of our fearless leader (most photographed guy on the ride???). This is at the lunch stop at Natural Arch Cafe. I felt so out of place, not having a stubbies singlet on, like the other group that was there.

As promised...
Big thanks to Greg for another professionally organised ride. When you think about if things weren't organised well, people would be getting lost, missing stops and everyone would get irratated, so top marks for Greg once again- you do a great job!!
Hopefully the newer guys to the group did learn some stuff, got more familiar with their bikes, and enjoyed the day.
I had a blast and the day was topped off with an appropriate drubbing to the Warriors  Bring on Manly!!
I see reading the Gold Coast Bulletin 2 more young bikers (aged 23 and 20) were killed on Sunday, one one his new gixxer600 (not that you can tell from the crash photo) on Numinbar Road not far from were we were I think (Chillingham), the other not wearing a helmet in Worongary. Both were single vehicle at fault accidents. Ride safe guys and gals.

Well said. Greg's method of controlling the group worked brilliantly.
Yeah, I learned to be watch out for blue R6's! Promise it won't happen again. I can't afford to keep buying you lunch!
That was an awesome display by the Cowboys. I sure hope they haven't peaked too early, though. Gonna be a tough Grand Final against the Storm (confident, hey?)

Hi all, real noob here. I bought a road bike on Sunday from Mt Tambourine (VT250F). Had never ridden a road bike on the highway before, so I thought i'd give the Ipswitch motorway a miss. I came down from Toowoomba, through the gap range crossing and have never seen so many bikes on the road! I am a computer tech and thought i'd have a look on the net to see if anything was organized for this day.
I just want to appoligise for not waving to the guys/gals that waved (my hands are still sore from holding on too tight) and i want to thank some guy on a Harley(maby) with a pillion who i followed for about half an hour just out of Tambourine. It was like a riding lesson :)
In case you guys want to know, I was the guy on the little black Honda, in a tee shirt, wearing a pair of dirty riggers gloves with a little red car behind me :)
Everyone on that highway, cars and bikes behaved great, i have driven in every mainland state and you always see someone doing something stupid.
Ride was great, arms are burnt, need a faster bike :)
*EDIT
checked route, would only have rode a small part of yours, oh well that whole area must be crawling with bikes!
Another big thankyou to greg for organising and running the ride- like said before it wouldn't have been the same without his efforts.
need a faster bike
Not to have fun you don't! My baby managed to keep up with the boys on their 600s and 750 ...though i'm sure they werent going as hard
I took some of the bike apart today to try to diagnose the bandit's mystery indicator disappearance without success upon realising that i know bugger all about electrics  hopefully the blokes at the dealership can shed some light on it.
Anyway, i had a blast on the ride so a big thanks to everyone involved, the next one can't be soon enough
Ok...now got a chance to put up a real post!
I wanted to say thanks to Balmy and Timnkoo for taking turns at TEC and especially to Grofaz who did a double stint at TEC on his first group ride. I was quite concerned that a lot of the regulars had pulled out of this ride which limited our leader/TEC options but thanks to guys like you putting your hands up, I had nothing to worry about.
Nicarus, sorry you dropped your bike but those round-a-bouts can be a buggar especially when the cage in front of you baulks at the oncoming traffic. I can't believe, with that amount of fairing, how there wasn't more damage. I know you're probably cursing yourself but there isn't one of us that hasn't dropped a bike somewhere at sometime, and if they haven't they will.
Cookeeetree, great to have you along and glad you didn't clean up Timnkoo, he just got his oggies back in place. It was really nice to meet you and I look forward to seeing you and your mrs on more rides. I thought I should tell you though, that while the colour of your bike changes from green to purple, in the mirrors it just looks pink
Chrisco, how long did you say you were riding? I'm going to hope you take into account that I was riding a tourer and that was why you could stay with me so easily.
Royboy, I realised I had your liner as soon as I got home and unpacked the panniers. I'll PM you my address so if you're in the area just drop in, otherwise I'm sure we'll catch up. I don't think you're going to need it for a while. Glad you could make it along and I hope you can come along for some more rides in the future.
Tomm, sorry I didn't get more time to chat with you but I must say that if you kept up with Balmy, Timnkoo and Matt through that Beechmont stretch you were doing well.
For everyone that took up a position, marked a corner, took a photo or helped someone out, thanks for making it a great day. =D>
I'll put a report together (thanks BM :P ) as soon as I can on the scrap book so keep an eye on http://members.ozemail.com.au/~muttly/

Likewise, mate.
Pink? Pink?! Oh, well, like Bundy ad says, chicks like men who aren't afraid to 'wear' pink.
kevtech101 - As Muttly suggested, mate, grab some gear then worry about the bike. Glad you had a great day out, too! Gotta relax those hands. Your grip should be no tighter than if you were trying to hold a wet sponge without squeezing out the water. Hope to see you out on a future ride.

Edit to cookeetree's grip technique: Squeeze like sh*t if a blue R6 is in front of you and you're riding a bike that weighs 80kgs more!!!

Thanks for the suggestions, i did feel a bit "naked" with just a shirt. I wouldn't mind some opinions about different riding gear, especially from people who have come off before. I would think that there isn't much out there that would help much in the case of a bad fall, but i suppose being broken is better than being broken and cut up.
I still can't get over the amount of riders between the gap and Tambourine, looking froward to getting down there again! Might even pull over and say hi.

I'm an ATGATT rider; All The Gear All The Time. I ride with either my DriRider textile or Storm leather pants, Kwacka leather jacket with hard armour in it, Sidi Vertigo boots, DriRider Adventure gloves and an HJC LT-12 helmet.
I used to wear a textile jacket (still hanging in the closet) but I feel so much safer wrapped in cow.
You're right in that riders can still die even with full gear. The chances of surviving the fall, though, increase dramatically when wearing it. It's the difference between an ambulance trip and getting up to dust yourself off.
Coming into the warm months, there's only going to be even more riders out there. I'm always up for a ride, so if you're ever heading down my way, give me a yell. Happy to show you some nice roads in the area.

Kev,
I can lend you a dodgy jacket ot two (your pic) if they will fit you until you can afford a good one of your own.
I'm on northside so if thats convenient and you're a shortarse (I'm 5'8" so you'd need to be probably 5'6" to 5'10") then why not try.
Anything is better than nothing, but get some real gear soon.

Sounds like you all had a fantastic ride on Sunday!! Did you get to the Chillingham store for real strawberried andfrozen chocolate bananas?
My little Geepy clocked up another 50 k's heading out to Blacksoil, then the back way into Ipswich. May have been a short trip, but, man, was it fun!!!!
KevTech101 - I picked up a textile RJays jacket for $130, brand new, from Hi Side Leather, Salisbury. They also stock some second hand gear, and are well worth the trip to save a few dollars, but still be well protected!
And don't let that Ipswich Motorway scare you, just avoid it at peack hour till you know your machine well!

Great to hear you're getting out 'n' about on your Geepy.
CookeeTree, the Chillingham store and Organic Fruit Shop are on the NSW side of the Natural Arch, a couple of K's past the cafe you all went to. It's the road back into Murwullimbah - towards the coast, if you go south-west, it's a three hour trip around Mt Warning - found out the hard way!!!

That'd surprise her, for sure.
Seriously, though, we're actually not closed off to the idea. So, what sort of numbers would we be looking at? Lunch or Dinner? Kids / no kids? Would it turn into a big p*ss-up, or just be social drinks? So long as everone chips in for it, we're more than happy to look at hosting something. We didn't build this massive house to not use it for socialising!
Carol - C'mon, girl, get out there! I do more k's than that in two days, just riding to work. (I understand that the ankle-biters must make it hard to get some "me" time.)
Hey Cookeetree, If I know these guys, they'd all want to ride out there and ride back again so I don't imagine they would drink too much (mind you there are a few wine drinkers amongst us who look for any excuse  )
I had been toying with the idea of just having a bit of a sausage sizzle up on Mt Cootha one afternoon but didn't know if anyone would be interested. It gets a bit hectic around that time of year. If we had it out at your place we wouldn't have to line up for a BBQ

I might be up for a ride, but I'm growing tired of Tamborine. I've been DYING to take the new bike down to Kyogle, but haven't been able to convince Mrs Tree to head down there, so we've only been doing local rides (Tamborine or Boonah).
So, do you feel up to a Kyogle run? It used to take me 2 - 3 hours on the little bike. I'd have to run things past Mrs Tree first, whatever happens.
The race coverage starts at 11am. Don't know when the main race is, though (no doubt last, but what time???). I'll be recording it all (Saturday and Sunday) on the DVD recorder anyway, so I don't mind missing some of it.
I have done a few rides through Kyogle so and last Friday was the first time I had been through the hinterland. I don't imnd going either way really. It just depends on everyone else. If I had to choose, I would head south as I did enjoy myself the other day.

kyogle might be a bit far. as i'm probably going to leave at 12 or hopefully a bit before. main race is at 3pm. was hoping to drop off bike at home then get lift/cab it to where i can watch the race. but don't mind taking longer and only having a couple beers to watch the race then riding home too...
i like the kyogle run. lions road is always fun. (well for most of us. sorry tim :P ) but depending on where to watch the race i thin it might be a stretch for me. unless stop somewhere on way back from kyogle to watch race then ride home??? not sure about that one.
I loved our ride last friday too righty. is why i was thinking of doing same. spoke to my mate whom was the one who suggested the ride and he said he is willing to just cruise around th hinterland making it up as we go too. so not sure if everyone would want to do that too?? i'll speak to him and mrs balmy tonight and get everything ironed out then put up a eoi in the ride planner :D

South? So, is that the Hinterland or Kyogle? Kyogle is south from me. Hinterland is east.
BTW, anyone and everyone is welcome to stop at our place to watch the race on the big screen (55").
kyogle might be a bit far. as i'm probably going to leave at 12 or hopefully a bit before. main race is at 3pm. was hoping to drop off bike at home then get lift/cab it to where i can watch the race. but don't mind taking longer and only having a couple beers to watch the race then riding home too...
i like the kyogle run. lions road is always fun.
Despite the fact that we took a dead end road, it was pretty fun just taking it as it came. We foudn some great roads which was a huge bonus.
I'm keen on a half day ride. I would prefer to head out early in the morning so as not to get back to bris late.

that could be a plan! my mate has pulled out so its just me and you guys :D so i'm up for whatever except i don't think i can get away early :( but am willing to try ;) maybe you could show us some of your fave roads around the traps cookee? then lead us to that almost too small tv ;) the race finishes at 3.45(ish) then about an hour home from there... so home around 5. thats doable. will check it over with the lady :) bigD and righty, what are you guys up for? i know righty is a fan of the make up ride ;)

Yeah guys do come Sth, will help me out. I have limited time (damned thesis) so I am keen for an early ride (like 7/8am start). Kyogle would be good to go through unscathed  , but I would have to leave early to do that as I want to be back by around lunchtime. Otherwise Springbrook is always a great run. Maybe we can do Springbrook and head sth after that?? Up to you guys and how early ppl are willing to go for a ride. 1 good thing about early ride is we won't miss any of the gp at all

I'm definitely up for a ride but starting that early would be a pain, I only just got home from work now and it will probably be the same tomorrow night. Is there somewhere that people are planning on meeting like Darra or Springwood?

...Nice setup there cookeetree.
Thanks, mate. Nice to have a wife who teaches Film. The monster TV was HER idea!
...maybe you could show us some of your fave roads around the traps cookee?...
My usual haunts are:
Beauy - Boonah - Rathdowney - Beauy (That's the one I suggested in the Chrissy BBQ thread).
Beauy - Canungra - Tamborine - Tamborine Village - Beauy (Bit short really, only good for a quick blat).
Beauy - Kyogle via Lions Road - Beauy via the highway (Old favourite).
Another possibility would be for those who want an early ride to head down here, then we could ride out to the new museum. Late starters could meet us there for the ride back, maybe via Boonah - Rathdowney?
Since I won't have too far to ride home, I'm happy to go with the flow and do whatever works best for you guys. I'm happy to head out any time and meet up with anyone who wants to head down later.
+1 to the early ride. I would like to be back in Bris by Lunch ish. I get pretty tired if I am out all day do it would be nice to keep it relatively swift.
I like the idea of springbrook.
How about a 9am meeting at spring wood? Can you make it there Tim? Then you can show me some of those roads you are getting good at :)

I don't really want to go up to Springwood again just to come back down. I can meet those wanting to go early at the Caltex at Mudgeeraba (a stop on the last group ride) around 9am (meaning a 8am start from Brissy). We can do a random Springbrook/Canugra/Tambo ride or do Springbrook and head down to Kyogle and back. If it isn't a large group we don't have to stop as much so shouldn't take too long. I don't live far from Springbrook so I can make it as early as you guys want to come down.
The Caltex is off exit 77, turning right at the first roundabout and left at the next---->

Guys, I did numimbah, springbrook today, they copped a huge storm last night. There are a lot of branches and leaves etc on roads, and in 3 places a tree had fallen and blocked a whole lane (springbrook)
Just be very careful

thanks heaps for that update tanya!!!
i won't make the early ride sorry guys. but don't let that stop you by any means. so maybe tim, righty and a few others that want to can have their early ride and then the rest of us can catch up with cookeetree and have a lunch time ride then back to cookee's for the race?? i'm easy on details just can't do the morning run sorry.
Hey guys,
bad news. The little lady has been put into hospital with appendicitis. SHe has to go under the knife sometime tonight and as such will probably want me to keep her company ;)
I'll see what she thinks, maybe I will still be able to go. I will post here tonight when I am more sure, but at the moment my priority is her.
It's not out of the question but probably not very likely any more. Sorry, I was looking forward to a nice blat too :( I bought some nice new summer gloves and everything.
I'll let you know either way some time later tonight when I get back from the hospital. For the time being, just assume that I won't be there.

Ok, well Balmy and Cookee and anyone else, are u guys keen to start at Springbrook for a random run later on during the day? If so let me know.
Sorry to hear about the missus Righty- hope all goes well and that she recovers soon.
Cheers

Righty, sorry to hear about your Missus, mate. Had appendicitis when I was 20. Totally sucked. Tell her to avoid anything funny. Nothing worse than laughing when you've got a gash in your stomach, trust me!
Timnkoo, I'm totally flexible and am happy to work in with those who want to be somewhere at a certain time.
Balmy, where do you live? If you were to go to Springbrook, would it be out of your way to come down the Mt Lindsay Hwy to Beauy, then out through Canungra, or would you go down the Pacific?
PM's on their way to both of you with my mobile number. Give me a call and let's sort this thing out.

hey guys.
i'm out for the ride and tv sorry. got pulled over by a nice policeman on the way home tonight. he was nice enough to tell me that my bike is in defect :( no mudguard and no baffle on exhaust :( i never noticed either of them! :( silly balmy.
and then as we were getting ready to get back on our bikes, he then asked me about my license that i gave him. it would seem that it ran out 3 weeks ago!!!  nice policeman only gave me defect notice. $75 and 1 point :(
so that puts me out. no driving or riding at all till at least monday. hope you all have fun
sorry to hear abotu the missus righty. hope all goes well for her mate.

Oh damn balmy! Sorry to hear about the misfortune but I'm glad you didn't get in trouble for the licence! Small victories aye..
I'd love to come for the ride but I'm totally bogged under uni work. I guess the fact that the bike won't hold idle and decided to leak petrol out of the carbies might have something to do with it as well
..on that note would anyone have any idea what is up with it? It happened a while ago and i could get it to start but it would stall without holding the throttle open, then i noticed that petrol was dripping out of the carbies while running.. haven't had the time to ride since (this happened a week after the group ride), not that I really know much in the way of tech stuff :P I can't help thinking that the flogging i gave my poor baby on the canungra stretch might have somehow contributed

thats not good tomm!!! maybe the poor bandit had a delayed reaction :P lol i'm no mechanic either. maybe with feul coming from there, you might have donw one of the seals around the carbie?? or a jet has broken/leaking??

14-Oct-2007, 05:16
Aw, sh*t, Balmy, that's no good.
Now you've got me worried. I've got no front guard at the moment. Seems the mounts were damaged in the last drop and they've broken off. I've got an insurance claim in the works for it and the damage to the fairings, R/H pipe and other bits 'n' pieces that hit the ground that day. I wasn't going to worry about it, but now that the guard's toast, I'm def getting it all fixed. Also, I'm missing a baffle on one pipe, too!
Hope you get things sorted quickly, mate.
Chrisco, I'm still up for a ride. Hopefully, timnkoo is, too. (He might still be having flashbacks of my bike flying past his front wheel! )

Timnkoo - slight change in plans:
Mrs Tree wants to go the Harbour Town, so we're going to head off in that direction. We should be at the Freeway just after 10-ish.
SMS your number to me. I'll call you when we get to the Freeway. If I get hold of you, I'll leave Mrs Tree and come for a ride with you and whomever else. If I don't get hold of you, I'll just spend the day with Mrs Tree and take her on a scenic ride through probably the same area.
We'll be leaving here by 9:15am. If you read this before then, call me instead.
