Pitted fork legs

What should i use to fix pits/stone chips in my fork legs? (They're just small chips, no major chunks or anything) I heard it was an emery cloth, dont know what it is though, or where to get it or anything, or if there is an alternative.

an emery cloth is basically sand paper except its used to sand metal rather than wood. the "sand" stays on the paper longer and the paper is actually cloth or some harder wearing material. hmm, i guess it'd be ok to sand the fork legs a bit. but don't take my word for it, i have no idea. and i would assume you would be going easy on them. you might sand away too much.
