The First RideRightRound Newsletter Tuesday December 9, 2008 at 12:47:15 PM by Netrider | G’day and welcome to the first installment of our newsletter. Please let us know what you think on the message forum. As a prostate cancer awareness campaign, we aim to engage local communities worldwide to work towards partnership on support, research, advocacy and solidarity from a community level. The Project is a proactive support for men’s health, designed to give organisations, media and the public a reason to talk about prostate cancer and men’s health. We will always need more support, and you can help by forwarding this to anyone who has a father, son, brother, boyfriend, husband, mate, neighbour or knows someone with a prostate and get them to sign up here. You could help save someone you love! Big News I will be joined on the tour by a good mate of mine, Todd 'Nevil' Barry from Newcastle, Australia. We are old driving mates, working together at Oz Experience in Australia and Top Deck in Europe. I can tell you, my mother is particularly happy that I'm not heading off alone. Todd's brother has also written a song for us – Hear it here Trip Prep Time is flying, spring has sprung and D Day is flying around. We are departing April 4th, 2009 – less than 5 months away. This time next year we will be in Canada, riding across Canada with the Ride for Dad crew, heading to California for the Movember Gala. This will be after having traversed Australia, Asia, Eastern and Western Europe. Needless to say there is a still heap to do, but it somehow doesn’t stop me wanting to be heading off tomorrow! Spread the word No messing around, we have been working hard to get the word out ther! e. Press we are working with includes; the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand; the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners; QANTAS in-flight entertainment Q Radio; Australian Motorcycle News; Fitness First Magazine; Motorcycle News UK, YHA Magazine Australia as a start. We have also given presentations at the Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne and are heading to Sydney for the Motorcycle Expo 21-23 November (we’ll see you in Sydney if you’re around). Oh yeah, I even ran the Melbourne Marathon to show how serious I am – Simon. See Photos We have been also been able to generate some great support from Australian Businesses, being supported by the travel and motorcycling communities. Check the website for details of sponsors, and if you can help out there is a list of things we still need! The Bikes We have considered a number of bikes considered for the trip, including the "BMW that film star rode with his mate". My initial choice, the Yamaha XTZ Tenere, conjured up visions of the Dakar Rally. The Suzuki DR650 comes up frequently on blogs and websites as tough and reliable. On value for money, aftermarket support and overall positive feedback, the Kawasaki KLR650 was the choice. With the Tenere being re-released this year, the KLR having a makeover in ‘08 and the 100 year celebration of Suzuki, we are still hoping to get some support as these big three compete to get a slice of the adventure touring market by showing regular people doing amazing things on their equipment! Watch this space... Coming from behind There is a lot of information on prostate cancer out there – the problem is that that is where it stays – out there. Prevention, testing, risk, treatment options, support for the patient, friends and family, programs, ideas, research the list goes on. There is a plethora of information on each. Each month we will look at an area. It might be relevant to you, maybe your father or your partner or your friend. Education is a powerful tool in the fight to gain more awareness. Could save someone's life, and a whole lot of stress and hear! tache! One Question Survey Thanks for those of you who participated in the bumper sticker ‘one question survey’ (which we will print if we get the sponsorship), the equal winners were: • Prostate Cancer awareness - help bring it from behind 12.2% • Give Prostate Cancer the Finger 12.2% Honorable Mentions • support prostate cancer research, one day it could really save your ass • Prostate Cancer - 'Stickin it to the man' Back to Home
